http://www.MemphisAstro.org. In this episode of Telescope Tips, Ric Honey and Jeremy Veldman discuss eyepieces. Many people think that magnifying power is the main benefit to buying a telescope. But, you actually need a good low-power wide field-of-view eyepiece to get started and find object in the sky more easily. However, this can be costly. This episode looks at the different types of low, medium, and high-power eyepieces- with examples of each, and some cost-effective alternatives. The world of eyepieces is a comprehensive one (and, potentially, a costly one) so, the beginner is encouraged to “delve slowly” into the world of eyepieces. Ric discusses some of the used eyepieces he has acquired over the years at very low cost that has given him a very good viewing experience as well! Start slowly and build your collection of eyepieces over time.

Great video, guys. But would it be possible to do it without the constant background music next time?
Great discussion! How about a follow-up with the technical details of the different designs–Plössel, Erfle, orthoscopic, etc.–and the good and bad points of each?
Very informative! Thanks – Bob Knight
