In this quick video I take you on a tour of my Meade LX90 8″ SCT with EMC Coatings!

Do these scopes compare to 11 inch celestron which have inter-changable telescopes ?? Can you change the OTA on a Meade fork mount for example a specialized Astrograph ??
The LX90 is a nice scope, but the setting circles are cheap and almost useless on it unfortunately.. so manual pointing is problematic.
I just saw another video about a guy wanting to get people to file a class action suite against Meade
Find it here.
hows the tracking without the gps, i just bought a use lx90 with the uhtc but without the gps in very great contidions , and i saw your reviews which by the way its great thank you in advance
Thanks for the video. You got a real bargain on your scope. I recently picked up an 8″ LX10 for a bargain price. It has the EMC coatings. I am going to install the OTA on a LX90 fork assembly I picked up so I will have all the go to capabilities. I found your video very enlightening. THANKS.
you jammy bastard lol
Nice a steal!!!
Thanks Charlie! Stay tuned for my upcoming LXD75 EQ review, Orion StarBlast OTA, and eyepieces…

Meade should pay you for promoting their telescopes 🙂
I would like to buy one like this used. do you know anyone who has one to sell?
Have you ever noticed how tight the collector plate is secured? Mine was so loose it actually moves easily, I have centered it (best I could with the old cork pads around it, and tightened it down, but not very tightly, from what I have read the screws are kept loose to not warp the glass in any way.
What a deal for 400.00 usd
what a bargain !
What are the advantages of upgrading to the Audiostar, other than the fact that it talks?
Hello GBPacker! Thank you for watching and sharing my Meade LX90 review! Refractors are amazing with astrophotography! There is no central obstruction like with reflectors or SCT’s. Most 80 to 120mm ED Refractors have very fast focal ratios which means it takes half the time to expose your image. Plus their weight is minimal which is good news for any mount. I do use the Orion 80mm ST refractor mounted on my LX90 for imaging and the results are stunning! I also use a Celestron GT102 in piggyback mode with my reflector. Clear Skies!
How’s the Star Test on your USA made LX90 optics? Get the ‘scope in focus at e.g. 250x or around that, with e.g. 8mm eyepiece, on Polaris, and pull eyepiece back 5mm, and look at the donut image. Note BRIGHTNESS of outer ring and inner ring, and overall sharpness of donut (should be same sharpness on either side of focus, not sharp donut on one side and blurred donut on other side of focus). Now refocus ‘scope to a point again. Now push eyepiece back in and look at the diffraction image (the donut shape). How similar are the patterns to each other in this way, on either side of focus? If they are very nearly the same when the ‘scope is fully cooled then you have very good optics. Also look for stars being hard round balls of light at 250x (the Airy Disc) with only 1 brightish ring around it, and still holding up at 500x, then all is good. You might have to wait for steady skies. Some of these Meade SCT’s had really bad optics. My friend Jon H’ got lucky with his 8″ ACF. Only slight astigmatism and very good Spherical Aberration correction, it does quite well on Jupiter for detail. Although his mount developed a terrible “rubber banding” fault and now has poor goto’s since his spring loaded worm block deflects 1/4 inch in Alt! Oh well. I’m looking for an LX90 with great optics and very good working mount.
Hi Michael, how did you changed the focuser knobs on your Orion 80mm guide scopes? they give the scope a more professional look. I’m currently in the process of equipping my LX200 with a guide scope, and purchased the Orion 80mm guide scope, but those focusing knobs that came with the scope have to go, they really look cheap.
how important is the spreader bar for the tripod? i just bought a new
lx90 8in. and the bar doesnt seem to fit right. are there any unforeseen
problems if i just leave it off while observing?
That is a really nice scope. I am Jealous
